On February 3, 1998, RA first President Levon Ter-Ptrosyan resigned. Here is a part from the text of his resignation:

“Well known to you power bodies demanded my resignation. Taking into account the fact that the use of the President’s constitutional authorization in this situation may bring to serious danger for the country, I accept the request and I resign''.
