The Police explanations on the arrest of the journalist of “Haykakan Zhamanak” daily Hayk Gevorgyan are not convincing. Political commentator Petros Ghazaryan expressed such a point of view in the talk with Slaq.am.
“It is very strange that a wanted person goes to his work…it means that all we can be wanted. Hayk is a well-known journalist and his arrest psychologically affects the whole journalistic field.
What does it mean Hayk hit someone on his car, caused damage to his health, etc…The Police explanation is just not convincing. Either the Police explanations should be convincing, or Hayk should be released.
- So, You think that in the reality Hayk Gevorgyan didn’t hit anyone and his arrest is baseless?
- I don’t rule out the fact that Hayk, may be, hit someone on his car. I wasn't there and can't say whether he caused damage to his health or not, but such kind of action by the Police is wrong. Finally, Hayk Gevorgyan is a public face. He is a serious journalist and he couldn't hit the citizen and leave, I don't believe it.
- May the fact that Hayk Gevorgyan is a journalist be a basis for him to be released, even if he is really guilty?
- Even if Hayk Gevorgyan hit the citizen, there are dozens of people in Armenia who shot others but don't go to jail. Let Hayk be released. Why do they organize this ''Mask Show''?
There are too many questions...The police actions cause many questions. It is wrong to say that Hayk should be convicted and it is wrong to shout ''Freedom to Hayk!'', justice should be demanded.
